[15.11.2019] Laureates of the 3rd Camera Jagellonica competition have been selected

[15.11.2019] Laureates of the 3rd Camera Jagellonica competition have been selected

We have announced the laureates of the latest edition of the Camera Jagellonica photographic competition. During the opening of the exhibition of winning photographs on 14 November in the Student Zone at Collegium Kołłątaja, the laureates of the competition and the authors of the awarded works received their diplomas and awards. The meeting was honoured with the presence of Professor Wojciech Nowak, rector of Jagiellonian University.

The Camera Jagellonica photographic competition is addressed to the academic community of Jagiellonian University and all supporters of the oldest Polish university. Its aim is to integrate the academic community by presenting architecture, the achievements of scientists, student life and history.

- We have now celebrated the success of the third edition of the Camera Jagellonica photo competition. We are delighted that, as in previous years, over 100 works were submitted. We could once again show Jagiellonian University from a slightly different perspective. All the credit goes to the students, staff and the entire academic community who, through their talent and unique outlook, captured our Almae Matris in exceptional photographs - says Adam Koprowski of Jagiellonian University Press Office, which organised the competition.

This year, the submitted works were evaluated by Dr Małgorzata Kistryn - author of the photographic exhibitions ‘The Colourful Heart of Italy’ and ‘Reflections of Italy’, Wojciech Matusik - photographer and photo editor of ‘Dziennik Polski’ and ‘Gazeta Krakowska’ newspapers and Tomasz Markowski - sports photography specialist, for two decades associated with ‘Dziennik Polski’ and ‘Przegląd Sportowy’ newspapers.

- The level of the submitted works was very diverse. However, most of them were surprisingly good for non-professional photographers. In some categories, it was genuinely challenging for us to pick the winning photographs. Despite many lively discussions, we managed to emerge unscathed from our task. I am already encouraging all those who are still hesitating to take part in the next Camera Jagellonica. It really is worth it - convinces Wojciech Matusik.

Jury members selected the best photographs and distinctions in the four categories: ‘Architecture’ - old and new buildings of Jagiellonian University; ‘Student life’, i.e. studying and having fun; ‘Impressions’ about the university and academic community; and ‘Jagiellonian University in the world’. Special awards were also granted by Jagiellonian University Rector, Professor Wojciech Nowak, and the editors of the portal nauka.uj.edu.pl. The winning photographs are presented below.
