[8.12.2022] Laureates of the 6th Camera Jagellonica competition have been selected

The 6th edition of the Camera Jagellonica competition is over and we already know whose works have been awarded by the jury! The jury members evaluated the photographic works in the three established categories: ‘Architecture’, ‘Student Life’ and ‘Impressions’, as well as an occasional category – ‘Stopped the Sun, Moved the Earth’, which foreshadows the upcoming Year of Nicolaus Copernicus. There were also three special awards, granted by the Rector of Jagiellonian University and the editors of ‘Alma Mater’ and ‘Cafe Nauka’.

The competition jury composed of: Anna Wojnar (photojournalist at Jagiellonian University and the ‘Alma Mater’ monthly magazine), Professor Małgorzata Radkiewicz (film scholar, works at Jagiellonian University Institute of Audiovisual Arts, board member of the Museum of Photography in Krakow), Wojciech Matusik (photographer and photo editor of ‘Dziennik Polski’ and ‘Gazeta Krakowska’ newspapers), Tomasz Markowski (sports photography specialist, for years associated with the daily newspaper ‘Przegląd Sportowy’ ) selected the laureates, whose names were announced on 7 December in the Student Zone of Jagiellonian University during the opening of the winning works.

The awards in the photo category were granted to the following participants in the competition:

Category ‘Architecture’

Main Award: Zuzanna Janeczek for her work ‘Natura Maxima’;

Distinction: ‘Dusza’ by Dawid Pyttel;

Category Impressions’

Main award: Marta Łabędź for her work ‘CU@UJ’;

Distinction: Katarzyna Wojciechowska for her photograph ‘Magia Collegium Novum’;

Category Student life

Main award: Tomasz Jaworski for his work ‘Początek’;

Distinction: Agata Szary for her photograph ‘Każdy moment jest dobry na naukę’;

Category ‘Stopped the Sun, moved the Earth

Main award: Jozef Cisło for his work ‘Idź w stronę światła słonecznego odbitego od Ziemi’;

Distinction: Martyna Plich ‘Galaktyka Uniwersum Instytut Stomatologii’;


In the video category, the main award was won by Magdalena Szatanik for her film ‘Za co lubisz UJ?’, while a distinction was received by Katarzyna Wojciechowska, author of the animation ‘Poradnik studenta: Jak stworzyć logo UJ?’.

Special awards were also presented.

The special award of Jagiellonian University Rector, Professor Jacek Popiel, went to Kalina Smolarek for the photograph ‘Kolory na szkle’ and Tomasz Jaworski for the film ‘Autopoiesis’. Both laureates received PLN 2 500 each.

The award of the popular science website ‘Cafe Nauka’ went to Józef Cisło, author of the photograph ‘Idź w stronę światła słonecznego odbitego od Ziemi’.

Meanwhile, Marta Łabędź (‘CU@UJ’), Jacek Cisło (‘Kiedy po ciężkim dniu wracasz do domu i nagle uświadamiasz sobie na nowo, że Ziemia krąży wokół Słońca’) and, once again, Józef Cisło (‘Idź w stronę światła słonecznego odbitego od Ziemi’) were awarded the ‘Alma Mater’ special award. Their work will appear next year on the covers of the monthly magazine.
